Surgery Tomorrow!!!

Jace and I made it to Utah this afternoon and the doctor was very impressed with his healing and we are going ahead with the skin grafts in the morning. He has to be there by 7am and the surgery should take about an hour. It's same day surgery so we should be home by tomorrow evening and then come back Monday and probably Thursday for a check up. The doctor seems fantastic and was very positive about things. We are very anxious for this to be over. It seems like this will be the worst of it and after several days of not moving it at all he will be able to start PT and work on getting his life back!

I have been really struggling with depression and this situation doesn't help any. My heart hurts for Jace. He was the victim... he is the most responsible kid... far and above any kid his age I know. We will get nowhere by placing blame but the truth of the matter, Jace is suffering terribly because of a stupid decision somebody else made... even if it was his brother and even if it was an accident. He would never take a gun out like that.... he has always been so ultra-responsible and my heart aches for his pain, for this trial that he has to walk through right now.... he is so responsible at work, a foreman for a construction company and it is making him crazy that he can't be out there working. Especially since his boss recently had knee surgery and is out of commission too. He has always felt like he has to carry burdens for others, and right now he can barely carry his own. I hurt for him every time he winces. I want to curl up in a ball and cry for the pain he is feeling right now. I know that he was protected... I know that his healing is miraculous in ways that we don't even understand... but he still has to suffer, he still has to endure the pain. It makes me realize even more how our decisions matter.... I think if we can help kids see that choices they often think aren't important or life altering can be huge. I think this has gone a long way in helping a lot of people understand that even the simplest decisions can sometimes have the largest consequences. Sometimes we think little choices don't really matter... but it is usually the little choices that end up being big.

Please keep Jace in your prayers... that the skin grafts may take and that he can continue to heal quickly and fully. We are praying that the surgeon is able to do his job to the best of his ability and that we will see great results very soon!

Just do it!!

I joked yesterday that I need to put my Nike shirt on that says, "JUST DO IT!" Because I need to just get up and do all that needs to be done. Sadly... I can't get motivated! Well... that's not really true. I am motivated. It's just that everything is such a mess I don't know where to start. Or I know what needs to be done, but between Nate thinking he wants to help me with everything and Jace and his stuff all over the living room... I just can't get things done.

Last week Thayne spent his unexpected week off painting, pulling up old carpet, doing new trim and preparing for the new carpet. The carpet is gorgeous, I love my newly painted bedroom. One wall is a deep chocolate brown, or as Thayne told the girls, "It looks like really yummy chocolate pudding!" :) It turned out absolutely perfect, with the brown comforter and red accent pillows, and brown and red sheer curtains. Now I don't know what to do with the walls. The stuff I had on the wall is about 13 years old and quite frankly, I am bored with it! We completely changed out the trim throught out the entire house and now it needs to be painted. There is just so much to do to finish the house. And we don't have any time right now to just concentrate on it. This week will be another trip to Utah, and then Easter weekend and more trips to Utah and then going to San Diego next weekend. WHEN is this mess going to get done??? I've at least kept up on laundry and got all of it folded yesterday... it's the putting it all back together that has me down!

I need some serious motivation!!! Or everyone out of the house for 2 days and some alone time to get my head together and figure out what needs to be done!

My sweet little Hayden is 9 years old today! He is such an amazing and loving child and I feel so blessed to have him as my son. I can't believe it was 9 years ago today. He is such a loving boy. He has the most gentle spirit and is always there to give a hug and tell us he loves us, ready to cheer up and help out as he can.

Jace update...

A whirl wind trip over the Utah and back today for Jace's appointment with the surgeons and to see the people from the burn unit to assess for skin grafts. The dressing change was much easier this time thanks to the sweet wound vac nurse! She injected lidocaine into the sponge and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes so this time, the worst of it was pulling off the tape. I'm not even going to say how upset that makes me when I know darn good and well that they have adhesive remover because I have it from when Nate had his feeding tube. I used it on Jace to removed tape stuck to his stitches and it was a breeze to get off. So WHY won't they do it in the clinic? I sure don't know!

They told us the wound looks AMAZING! Really? Amazing? Is that what they call it? Whatever! They said to come back on Thursday and hopefullly things will have healed well enough to go forward with the skin grafts on Friday morning. We all want that so much! So anyone willing... please pray that Jace's leg heals as well as it has been and that it will be ready to receive and accept the skin grafts!

There is no sign of infection and he is doing really well. He walked a lot more than he normally does and was exhausted but went about 8 hours without pain meds. It really was too long, but he handled things really well and we are praying that we continue to see such a wonderful improvement!

Answering some of the comment questions...

I wanted to answer some of the comments and questions...

I had to laugh about it being a man thing to want to know what it feels like to be shot. In fact Stetson said to Jace, "We always wondered what it felt like to get shot! Now we know!" To which Jace answered, "YOU may have wanted to know what it felt like to get shot, but I NEVER did... and you still don't! What's this WE stuff?" In fact the police officer that helped him had his own 'gun shot wound' story... only he was shot in the rear, not the leg! It was a 40 caliber. The police officer and others expressed 'relief' at the cost of bullets preventing it from being a hallow point... or something to that effect! Men are truly strange creatures! And yes it feels hot... and then numb! And for the record, bullets travel the path of least resistance, which is why it only grazed the bone. He does have a hair line fracture. But again, his angels were watching over him because a millimeter either way could have been complete tragedy! Not taking away from the seriousness of it all... it IS absolutely serious but we have to joke about it sometimes or lose our minds! We were walking through a FYE store and they were talking about a particular movie that was horrible and I said you would have to shoot me before I would watch that movie. Then looked at Garrett and said, "OH, ummmm... yeah never mind!" He did NOT think it was funny but Tiffany and Thayne laughed.

Garrett is devastated that it happened. He has talked to a counselor... he will get through this. IT TRULY WAS AN ACCIDENT. And I pity the person that every says "Garrett shot Jace" within ear shot of Jace because he is very protective of his brother and will set the record straight that an accident occurred with Garrett's gun... not that Garrett shot him. Garrett didn't have his hand on the butt of the gun or his finger on the trigger! IT WAS AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT! There are times when Garrett gets really emotional about the whole thing, but he will learn to live with his mistakes just like we all do, and with any luck he will be a better person for going through such a tragedy. Guns don't kill... people kill. If you take guns away from all people, the only people with guns will be bad people. If we were to ban everything that could hurt or kill a person, it will be a really sad world! Will everyone we know be affected by this accident? Oh, absolutely! Most people will be much more careful. But you would be surprised how many people have had a close call with one thing or another, including guns. I know people who have lost children to very innocent things.... choking on popcorn, riding a bike, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, crossing a road. Should we ban cars because somebody was careless in how they drove? Or more importantly, because they may accidentally do something that hurt or killed somebody? I don't even want to go there! Government is getting ridiculous with all of it's laws anyway. Let's take this for exactly what it was... AN ACCIDENT!!! I have had doctors almost kill my baby boy... and for that matter, the doctor that initially did the fasciotomy did it backwards... put the rubber band looking things over the gauze instead of under it which made another surgery and skin grafts necessary... so I guess in the line of thinking that somebody can mess up, the doctor should lose his license because it did it wrong and caused more pain to Jace!

Scars and the stories behind them were a constant thing at the hospital. The one really cool doctor told Jace not to worry... "Chicks dig scars!" And then told him that he had it made because he could tell people he was shot and that's what the scars are from. Caitlyn's dad teased him that it would seem he wasn't bullet proof after all. I heard more stories about stuff like this than I ever care to remember, though some of the visions are stuck in my head for good I am afraid!

About Caitlyn's parents... they were upset that the kids had to go through that. They are glad that nobody else was injured and they are completely sick about Jace. They do not blame... they know that an accident occurred. In fact Caitlyn's mom was the first person to get there and comfort Jace because she was already in Salt Lake shopping that day. They sat for hours with us. Caitlyn's dad came on his way through and stayed for hours and hours, took us out to dinner, stayed the night and visited again before he had to leave on a business trip. He calls everyday and checks on everyone and is so supportive. They love Jace and have constantly asked about Garrett too. They accept that accidents happen and hold no grudges nor do they judge anyone in the situation. It could have been anyone, in any type of accident!

Many of our very good friends have thanked us for sharing so that they could continue to teach their children respect for guns... most we know handle guns and have them in their home. Like us, they have taught their kids and they have a pretty healthy understanding and respect of what a gun can do. But this drives home the fact that accidents can happen and that you need to be extra vigilant when it comes to guns. Or anything for that matter. I wish this had never, ever happened... but it did. And because it did, we can either be bitter, point fingers and ask why, or we can learn, grow, become less critical of others, not judge even when you think there is something to be judgemental of. My family has an opportunity to serve their brother... brothers! They are learning more empathy and compassion. They have learned to carry the pain of another human being and to pray for the health and blessings for someone besides themselves. Tonight Wyatt and Kalli eagerly got Jace a bowl of cereal while I got him his pills. They jump at the chance to do his bidding. They hold his hand and rub his foot and love him completely. It's not ideal to have to suffer like this... but they have learned what it takes to love another person so selflessly!

There is an old country song by Keith Whitley that we used to listen to when Garrett and Jace were tiny, little boys called Brotherly Love... we always laughed because they were then and are now the best of friends... it always seemed to fit them...

"There's a bond that brothers know, and it gets stronger as they grow, a love that time and miles can't come between, we disagree but in the end, there will never be two closer friends and brotherly love is something we all need."

That describes my boys completely!

Gruesome pictures of Jace's leg... not for the weak of heart!

The kids constantly asked for pictures of Jace's leg while we were away. Personally I think they are kind of sick. Though I surprised myself and was able to handle watching all of the medical procedures they performed on his leg without losing my cookies. I am amazed at what they can do to a body. Our friend had the finger that he lost minus the bone sewed to the back of his finger for later use. Jace said that every doctor, every nurse, every EMT were positive and helpful except one doctor who, while he was in extreme pain tried to lecture him about guns. He told her that he did not want to hear it yet she tried to continue. He was hurting badly and finally told her that he would not, and did not have to listen to her rantings and that doctors killed more people than guns did! (that's my boy!!!)

Mostly his leg just looked fake. Like something you would see on ER knowing that it was all made up. It was interesting to see the muscle flex or have spasms... literally the muscle, outside of his leg! It looked plastic.

The first morning after the initial surgery his leg was just wrapped up a lot, and was oozing and bleeding but they said that was normal.
We told Jace he didn't make a very attractive drug addict... he was pretty out of it most of the time, on what he lovingly called his Dalai Lama drug. We told him that we could use his pictures to discourage drug use because he looked so funny and talked in a high pitched voice and laughed at the funniest stuff! This is Jace with his Build a Bear named Kinikini! He was mad when he found out we took the picture, he said a Build a Bear is appropriate if he was 8... but not 21! :) It was more for our entertainment, not for his comfort!
This is what the fasciotomies look like...not pretty, looks like a shark bite!
Then they were able to sew up the outside and part of the inside... and then put the wound vac on... and the entrance wound is still open, they want it to heal up on it's own.

And now... the rest of the story!

After the surgery, we were able to go to the hotel and get some rest. Caitlyn's little sister Jenna came and spent her whole spring break with us in the hospital. I can't believe that she wanted to do it, but she did and I am so grateful for both of them. They are the sweetest girls. We were able to go back to the hotel that night, ordered room service, ate and slept in the next day for the first time. For the rest of the week there was more waiting. When they changed Jace's wound vac dressing it was horrible to watch. I have never witnessed one of my children in such extreme pain and I cried as he cried from the pain. Our friend Shane came over to visit. He's a doctor and he worked with a lot of gunshot victims in Detroit and he said that the incisions Jace has are the most painful he has ever seen.

The time was now spent trying to get the pain under control and making a game plan. We were so hoping to come home Thursday but they had to wait for the wound vac that we would be bringing home had to be delivered and that wouldn't happen until that night. Jace was anxious to get out of there, though it was still so painful for him to get around. He started pushing himself to walk a little farther on the crutches. There were so many wonderful doctors and nurses that truly cared about him and his care.

Friday we left early that morning. It was an interesting drive coming home with only one scary moment when the pump stopped working and the pain was unbearable. We were able to get it working again and back on the road. Getting home meant getting things ready for his care, and then another problem with the pump. We were able to get in to the wound care clinic to get the dressing changed. Thayne went with me this time and witnessed first hand the pain it caused Jace. That stressed Thayne out so much.

Saturday morning brought stress that he was almost out of pain medication. They told us they would give him enough to get him through Monday when he saw them again. But they didn't... not even close. They only gave him 20, at 2 every 4 hours that wasn't enough. I don't know why I didn't pay attention when I got the prescriptons filled Thursday night. I just left them in the bag assuming that they gave enough. I got through to his doctor who apologized for messing up but told me that they couldn't call this in, and to take him to our clinic and have them give him more. She told me that the doctors here could call them and they would explain what happened. I called our clinic (remember I don't really care for this clinic from all of the bad experiences in the past!!!) and explained the situation. The receptionist talked to a nurse and came back on and told me that they couldn't help me. WHAT??? I asked to speak to the nurse. After explaining it to the nurse she told me that they weren't comfortable with the situation!!! WHAT SITUATION???? Are you kidding me! I told her that it wasn't a situation she had to be comfortable with... I would bring his records, they could look at, poke at and walk around his wounds but that he needed to be cared for and since they told me not to take him to the emergency room they better figure out how they could become comfortable with the situation!!! SHEESH! She finally got a doctor on and he had NO PROBLEM with the so called situation! So off we went to the clinic and were able to get the medication that would keep him comfortable until we go again on Monday. I realize that this is an addictive drug, but that isn't really our problem at this moment! And since we are aware of the risk of addiction, we will cross that bridge if it ever comes up... until then, we are not going to watch him suffer!

I believe that he will be healed fully, completely and that it will continue to be a miraculous healing. Prayers are constant in his behalf and we are so blessed to have so many people caring for and praying for our family.

I am amazed as I watch my children care for one another. The pump is extremely painful as it is turned on, and yesterday at a particularly painful moment Jace was trying to breathe through the pain as tears streamed down his face. All of the kids were in the room and they were crying with him, and praying for him. They carry each other's burdens and love each other so completely that it takes my breath away! I am so amazingly blessed to be the mother of these wonderful, compassionate kids! I am grateful for everyone that not only asked about Jace, and prayed for him, but for those that understood Garrett's personal pain and are praying for him too. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger if we let it. We are trying to let it make us stronger.

Accidents and hospitals...part 3

Caitlyn, Jenna and I went with him back to surgery. He was in so much pain he was begging them to just put him out. They gave him meds to relax him and then we had to watch his breathing. They had given him the max amount of pain meds and at times he just seemed to forget to breathe so they put him on oxygen and all three of us watched for every breath he took. Sometimes I would have to get up and pat his chest because he would go a little too long without breathing. They were at long last ready to take him back so we went to the surgery waiting room to wait... and wait... and more waiting!

Side story here... Thayne always tells me I can't stick to one story, I wander... and this will be no exception. Kassi text me that our neighbor had been flown by life flight to Utah. A nurse that gives everyone updates was talking on a phone as she walked by saying that only Jace and and our neighbor were left in surgery. I got up and followed her to the other end of the waiting room and sure enough, there was his wife sitting there. She asked what we were doing there... I asked what she was doing there. Her husband had slipped at work and his hand went into a fan and took a significant part of his hand off. Interesting enough... they would end up sharing a room the rest of Jace's stay because his roommate had gone home that morning!

Finally Dr. Kinikini (we named the Build a Bear that Caitlyn and Jenna made for Jace Kinikini... it's just a cool name, don't you think???) came out and told us that the surgery was a success. That they were able to sew the outside of his leg completely closed and that they were able to get at least half of the inside closed and that they put the wound vac on the rest of the incision. It went much better than they expected it to go. And the other doctor that was really awesome came and said that when they explored the entire leg they found blood clots around the entrance wound. Had he not bled out that morning, they would have put the wound vac in but completely missed the blood clots and that could have been devastating! What looked like a set back ended up being a great blessing. And we were very grateful for that! There have been so many miracles through out the whole ordeal that it would be impossible to acknowledge that there were angels watching over him. I read a discussion recently about how miracles have ceased. I would have to strongly disagree. Some of the things that happened could not be coincidence at all. They were miracles. Minutes... just minutes after praying that the doctor's initial report that he wouldn't be able to sew the incisions closed at all and that he would need extensive skin grafts Jace started bleeding. The bleeding caused them to go back in and find the blood clots that would have been missed and could have potentially caused serious damage. And because of the release from the bleeding the pressure was reduced in a way that they could close the incisions almost completely, but definately much more than they had even hoped for.

Miracles haven't ceased. We just forget to look for them. Bad things happen. The Lord doesn't cause bad things to happen, but He gives us many opportunities to grow from the bad things that do happen. I guess the trick is to decide if we are going to be miserable while we are going through the hard times, or if we will allow ourselves to find gratitude for what we do have. If we choose to be miserable than the hard times were a waste. The true character of a man/woman shows, not when they are going through good times, but when they are being tried and their circumstances are not perfect.

Accidents and hospitals... part 2

After what seemed like an eternity we made it to the hospital. The word before we got there was that they were keeping him overnight and he would go home the next day. If only that had been true.

We ran into the emergency room to a sea of familiar faces. Buffy, Tracy, Stetson, Maverick, Caitlyn's mom and sister and my brother were there. I gave Garrett a hug and then went to see Jace. They only allowed one person in to visit at a time. They had him on some pretty serious medication so he was a little bit out of it in la la land. He wanted me to look at his injury so I did, because that's what mom's do. He babbled about things that were important, and things that weren't so important. He told me that I had to do his laundry now. And he was worried about work, and who was going to finish the tiling job he had to do.

They told us that he would be going to the operating room very soon, the doctor was just getting ready. He hadn't had a pulse in his foot for an hour or more and they checked the pressure and told us that he had to have the surgery immediately or risk losing his foot. At the time they were telling me all kinds of medical terms and reasons why, but it pretty much went over my head. Just that the pressure was too great in the leg, and that there was no place for it to go without cutting off the oxygen supply to his foot and damaging the arteries and nerves. They performed a four-compartment fasciotomy... basically it was a 10 or so inch incision on both sides of his calf. He was in horrible pain and I hated seeing him suffering that way. It's funny how they can be grown men, and still a mom would do anything to take away that pain! Monday was all about trying to control the pain that was completely out of control at this point. Changing the dressing proved to be even worse.

Thayne, Garrett and Tiffany were leaving for home on Monday morning. Thayne kept telling me he didn't want to leave me because it always seemed like he left me to something bad. I hoped that wasn't going to happen this time.... it seemed like as soon as he left last year when Nate was in the hospital that some sort of scary emergency happened. It was horrible to watch the dressing being changed but I figured if that was the worst, I could handle it.

Tuesday morning I woke up before my alarm went off. Caitlyn, her sister Jenna and I would be sharing a hotel room but they stayed with their dad that night. As I woke up I started praying. Praying that the swelling and pressure would be reduced and that they would be able to close the incisions... they didn't think they would be able to. I prayed that he would be able to heal quickly and that it wouldn't be as horrible as they thought it would be. I had no sooner said Amen and I got a text from Jace asking where I was, telling me that he got up to go to the bathroom and started bleeding... BAD! He said the nurse was freaking out, and that they were calling the doctors. Then he texted me that it was bad! By now I am shaking and scared and called Thayne. It was very early. I told Thayne that I needed him to talk me through this and to call Jace and talk to him while I got ready and got to the hospital. All day we waited.... his foot sweeling was getting worse by the minute and the doctors were in and out telling us that he would likely need surgery again to find out what was bleeding. One artery was severed with the gunshot wound but they said the other two were okay so they didn't reconstruct the artery during the initial surgery. That was a horrible day. Jace was in so much pain and it was a miserable day for everyone. By late afternoon they decided to take him to surgery immediately.... and as usual, immediately in the hospital means whenever they finally get around to it.

Accidents and hospitals...part 1

I have thought many times about what I would put on my blog about this past week. I even debated just not writing about it at all...yet that's not me... this is our life, the good, the bad and the oh so ugly. What you see is what you get. You get what you get. I don't put on a show here or anywhere and since this is a record of life in our home, the good and the bad goes here!

So here it is... Jace got shot in the leg! The reason I hate saying it is because there are people out there that have problems with guns. As if a gun is the cause of the great tragedies out there. Or people that believe that the government has a right to limit our right to bear arms. I am not one of those people. What happened to Jace was an accident and nothing more and my idea of gun ownership has not changed at all. I am constantly amazed at rumors... at people who are out there that seem to relish others suffering, or who judge or assume that they know something that they actually know nothing about! And then there are people out there who cry when we cry, laugh when we laugh, and carry the burdens that we bear and make them lighter because they are so wonderful. That is what I am going to concentrate on and this is the story....

A week ago today was the beginning of yet another nightmare. Life is never boring. We have had so much to do at the house and we planned on spending the day ripping up carpet, painting and cleaning. I had just put in the last load of laundry to wash! I was finished for a few minutes and that was a good feeling. Garrett, Tiffany, Jace and Caitlyn had taken off to Utah to a Jazz game that Jace had spent a small fortune on... one that he had jokingly told us that NOTHING would make him miss that game! Well... almost nothing! Dang kid just isn't bullet proof! I had had a nervous feeling all week about them going. But hey, they are adults and if nothing else in life, I have learned that I have to let them live their lives, and trust that they will be watched over, protected and kept safe, and make right choices.

At about 9:30am or so I had gone downstairs to put in the last load and take down some folded clothes. That is when I hear Thayne yelling. He told me to come to the bedroom NOW! I knew by his voice that there was something seriously wrong! I kept telling him to just TELL me what was wrong... what happened, did the boys get in a wreck??? WHAT was wrong??? He then says, "A gun went off in the car and Jace was shot!" There are experiences like these that I have been close enough to know about to know that they don't usually turn out very well. And for future reference to every man out there... do not EVER start a sentence out that way, and worse yet... do NOT, under any circumstance pause for effect!!! The effect is something close to a nightmare, where the world starts spinning and staying in control becomes a very real problem!!! Seconds before I blacked out he finishes the story. Garrett and Jace were talking about their guns. Garrett took his out and was talking about the way it breaks down compared to how Jace's breaks down. There are 4 different safety features on Garrett's gun. One of which his hand has to be on the butt of the gun. His finger was not on the trigger, the clip was not in, but apparently a bullet was lodged in the chamber and the gun somehow discharged. Interestingly enough, all of the bullets were accounted for in the clips and the bullet is nowhere to be found. Everyone looked, it didn't exit the car as far as anyone could see (it was checked out) and x-rays showed it had entered and exited Jace's leg. The police said this was a true accident. Not that I doubted it. To me, it's just a fact of life that no matter how careful we are, bad things can and sometimes do happen. It was pointed at the ground, just at too much of an angle that it entered the upper calf on the outside of his right leg, traveled down and exited on the inside of the leg above the ankle.

I jumped in the shower, scared, and just ranting because I couldn't do anything else to ease the stress and worry! Jace was actually the one that called his dad to tell us what happened. He somehow managed to stop the car, pull over to the side of the road and they were able to slow the bleeding. While Garrett was on with 911, Jace called Thayne. While I was in the shower he called back, afraid of how I would react. He told Thayne that he had to talk to me. I told him that I was in the shower, but he insisted so Thayne handed me the phone. My first thought was one of relief. My son was talking to me, that means he was alive, so as long as I kept him talking he would stay that way... right? So with a shaky voice I asked him what happened, what WAS happening and was he alright. He starts yelling, "You HAVE to calm down mom... you canNOT freak out... CALM DOWN MOM, THIS HURTS SO BAD!" I told him I was okay, really! I told him I was showering and that I was in control. The problem was that HE wasn't so much in control but was starting to panic and that if he could convince himself that I was freaked out, he would have a reason to keep himself under control to help me!

We finally got on the road, leaving the house in chaos and everything up in the air, not knowing what we were going to be facing. Thankfully we have fantastic friends that jump right in and take over. Not to mention the kids being amazing and able to handle things. Though Saturday was a very rough day and everyone really struggled!

To add more drama to an already dramatic story, Jace was on the life flight helicopter 4 minutes from the U of U hospital in Utah when they hit two seagulls. The first one just hit the window, but the second hit the propellers and the helicopter started shaking, spinning and dropped quickly. They told him that they almost went down but they were okay and would be at the hospital in just a couple of minutes. He said he was thinking, "Seriously, I lived through a gun shot and you kill me in the helicopter on the way to the hospital!"

Those were the worst 3 hours I have ever had to travel! Not knowing what was going on... knowing that both of my boys were hurting beyond belief, in 2 very different ways. Knowing that I left chaos and was walking into who knows what. We were lucky because our best friends were closer to them than we were and my brother also headed to the hospital. Caitlyn's mom and sister happened to be over there shopping so they were there when Jace got to the hospital. I was so glad that he didn't have to be there alone!
