Do you ever notice that a grandma can ask the hard questions that a mom just can't get away with? Grandma and grandpa (my parents) came out for Thanksgiving and spent the night. Today grandma was asking some pretty hard questions to a couple of my boys. Thayne and I just sat back smiling at each other. They are questions that are often on our mind, but when expressed out loud usually end up with grumpy teens and disgruntled parents. But grandma asks and they HAVE to listen, just to be polite if nothing else. The hard part? She expects an answer... so in the end they have to say what it is that is going on, answer the hard questions and maybe, just maybe they spend a couple of minutes thinking about their lives and what those questions really mean in the big picture.
I just LOVE grandparents. Our job is never done in the lives of a child. Thank goodness somebody out there gets to ask those questions that mom and dad can't ask in such a way, and get the answers that make the child pause and reflect on what these things really mean in their lives!
And boy... do I miss my grandmas!
